Garden Advice Sessions
Focused design guidance to give clarity and direction. This session is ideal if you want professional input and reassurance before moving forward yourself. To make the most of our time together, you're welcome to share photos of your space in advance so we can hit the ground running. During your session, we can explore layout ideas, planting direction, problem areas and priorities, giving you clear next steps and design confidence to move ahead with your project.
Please note that consultations don't include design work, plans, mood boards or follow-up correspondence — if you'd like to take things further, that's what my design services are for. This is a strategic starting point, and should you choose to commission a full design within 12 months, the cost of your consultation will be deducted from your quotation.
£150 for an in-person session of up to 2 hours or £75 for a 1 hour video call.
Travel within a 25-mile radius of Loughborough is included. For projects beyond this, a mileage charge of 45p per mile applies.

The Garden Design Process
01 Introduction
An initial consultation is a chance to meet you and see your garden. We can discuss your ideas, challenges, aspirations and how you’d like to use your outdoor space.
The aim is to establish what you’d like to achieve, create a brief and see how we might work together.
02 Site Survey
Depending on the size and complexity of the site, the survey will be carried out in-house or by a professional landscape surveyor.
This essential stage ensures that existing structures, levels and services are accurately captured, all of which may influence the design.
03 Concept Design
This is an exciting and collaborative stage where we explore mood boards and develop a style aesthetic.
Once we have a shared vision for your garden, a concept design is created with visuals to illustrate how your garden might look and feel.
04 Detailed Design
With the concept approved, a detailed master layout plan will be produced alongside any technical specification drawings.
Detailed planting plans and schedules can also be created prior to sourcing trees and plants from specialist nurseries.
05 Garden Build
Once designs are approved, a landscaping contractor is commissioned and work begins!
I follow progress closely throughout the build, working with your contractor to ensure design intent is realised and the finished result is something to be proud of.
06 Planting
On planting day, I check all plants for quality and set them out in their positions. You are welcome to plant them yourself or I can take care of that for you.
I’ll then put together a personalised care guide to ensure your garden thrives.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A garden designer transforms the way you think about your outdoor space — turning a jumble of ideas into a cohesive, considered design that works beautifully year round. From materials to planting, every decision is informed by expertise, helping you avoid costly mistakes and create something that genuinely enhances your home and the way you live.
-
The honest answer is that there's no wrong time to start — and the sooner you get in touch, the sooner we can make the most of the best planting seasons.
The design process can begin at any time of year, but it's worth knowing that Spring and Autumn are the ideal seasons for planting, as conditions are perfect for plants to establish well. Starting your design in Summer or Winter puts you in a great position to hit the ground running when the optimal planting window arrives.
Get in touch today and we can work backwards from the season that works best for you.
-
Absolutely — in fact, constraints can be the making of a great design. Working within a smaller space or tricky access often sparks more creative solutions, and there's something deeply satisfying about making every inch count. From hard landscaping to planting, every element is carefully considered to ensure your space works beautifully and feels complete.
-
Absolutely — and you're not alone. It’s very common to have little more than a feeling about what you want, or a collection of images you've saved without quite knowing why. That's a perfectly good place to start.
Part of my role is to help you make sense of what you're drawn to, identify the themes and find common threads. Through our initial conversations and the collaborative mood board process, we'll gradually distil your ideas into a clear vision for your garden — one that feels unmistakably right for you.
-
Garden design fees vary depending on the size, scope and specification of your project — and every project is different. Once I've seen your space and we have a clear brief, I'll put together a detailed proposal with a transparent pricing breakdown so you know exactly what to expect.
If budget is a consideration, it's also worth knowing that many clients choose to build their garden in phases, spreading the investment over time without compromising on the overall vision.
-
Every project is different, and realistic timelines will be outlined in your proposal once we have a clear brief. As a rough guide, smaller gardens typically take around 6–9 months from initial design through to planting, with larger or more complex projects taking considerably longer — particularly where planning permission is required.
It's also worth factoring in that good landscapers are in demand and may have a waiting list, and plants will need to be ordered several weeks in advance.
The design and build process rewards patience — and the result is a garden that has been carefully considered, expertly crafted and built to stand the test of time.
